This page tells the story of the civil war from the eyes of the Northern people. The North believed in Abraham Lincoln as a leader, and believed in people such as Frederick Douglas who was an example of the greatness of the Abolitionist movement. The North used its strength in numbers to win at the battle of Antietam, the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. This led to the emancipation proclamation where Lincoln abolished slavery in the North. Ulysses S. Grant soon took over as Northern head general. The North hated what the South stood for, which was slavery. Many photos circulated in the North of the cruel hardship that blacks suffered in the South. The North went on to win the battles of Vicksburg and Gettysburg. Two crucial battles in securing their victory. The war ended with Lincoln's Gettysburg address, a speech that represents everything that the North stood for.
